A special food assistance program for those receiving SSI

 

Falls under DCF and Part of the ACCESS Program

 

This program helps low-income households buy food needed for good health if they are receiving SSI.

Individuals may be eligible for SUNCAP if they wish to apply for food stamps and:

  • Receive SSI

  • Are at least 18 years old

  • Are not working

  • Purchase and prepare food alone.

 

Eligible households receive food stamp benefits within 7 days if:

  • Your household's countable gross income is less than $150 and your total liquid assets (such as cash, bank accounts, etc.) do not exceed $100 in the month you apply for benefits

  • Your household's countable assets and gross monthly income are less than your most recent monthly rent or mortgage and utility expenses or

  • Your household includes destitute migrant or seasonal farm workers.

File for SSI at one of the Florida Social Security offices,

 

Contact the special SUNCAP unit at 1-866-762-2237 if you already get SSI, but do not get food stamps.
